First customers

We just had our first paying customers in December! It’s a small drop in the bank account, but a very big step for us as a company!

Back to work

Since we presented our pitch at demo day in Boston, New York and San Francisco in September, we all got down to business — specifically, the business of launching and iterating on our product

Evolution of our product (Nobember, December)

Our team (5 employees, and many more volunteers) have been working to improve the app, build more content/courses, and reach thousands of students in our first 2 months of full-time operation (not to mention, our first batch of paying customers!)

One of our first users

While we’re happy to have reached this milestone, our work is far from over. We’ve run into a number of problems now that we have an active user-base — everything from payment systems to errors in our content, so we have our work cut out for us.

Vectorized Video

We’ve also been hard at work over the last few months developing and refining our Vectorized Video technology

It’s been an international effort, with our internal programming team in Ghana, our content team in Nigeria as well as a dedicated group of volunteers at Harvard helping us develop the Android module

Harvard Developers 4 Development team presenting their work

We’ll be continuously working over the next few months to continue refining the tech, making it smooth/seemless, adding new features, and bringing it to new platforms.

The Naija Office

For the last few months our team of 5 has been working remotely, meeting on google hangouts (whenever the internet permitted). Tunde is now in Nigeria for the month of January, and we finally had our first company meetup!

Unfortunately I wasn’t able to make it, and apparently I missed out on some excellent Nigerian food that I don’t remember how to pronounce. Next time guys!

Next up

As I already mentioned, we’ve hit an important milestone, but we have our work cut out for us. As our New Years resolution, over the next few months, we’ll be working to

  • Launch 4 more courses for the WASSCE
  • Test alternate payment mechanisms
  • Reach 50k users
  • Expand to Nigeria

Stay tuned for updates as our business gets out of the crib and begins to walk!
